Madison (M.T.J.) Capshaw was a doctor and one of the first settlers in the town of Norman Oklahoma. He practiced there until his death from what he diagnosed as pancreatic cancer. Official cause of death listed as arterial sclerosis.

Capshaw Funeral to be Held Today
Came to This Country in Spring of 1891: Masons to Have Funeral Charge.
Another of Cleveland county's old timers, a resident here since the spring of 1891, passed to the Great Beyond in the person of Dr. M. T. J. Capshaw, who died Friday evening at 5 o'clock at the family home at 500 University Boulevard. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at the Masonic temple, with Rev. W. L. Broome officiating, followed by the Masonic ceremonies.
Doctor Capshaw has been an institution of this county for many years and was known to practically everyone who has been here any length of time. He was always in favor of the things which would accomplish most for the people and numbered his friends by his acquaintances.
He was born in Ouachita county, Arkansas, June 4, 1856 and died at Norman on October 23, 1920. He was married to Rebecca Briggs at Danville, Ark. in 1884 and to this union eight children wre born. They are Dr. Walter Capshaw. deceased, Mrs. Key Wolf of South Dakota, Jesse Capshaw Lexington, Fred Capshaw Oklahoma City, Elmer Capshaw Ponca City, Mrs. Eugene Keller of Norman, Edward Victor Capshaw and Chester Capshaw of Norman.
His wife died eight years ago on October 22, 1912 and on Nov. 1, 1914, he was married to Mrs. Meakie Burrett, who survives the deceased.
Friends of Dr. Capshaw and family are invited to attend the services this afternoon after which interment will be made at IOOF cemetery.
Many friends will be sorrowed in this hour of bereavement and the Transcript extends to them and relatives a word of consolation.
