Youngs, 99, of 142 Mechanic St., formerly of Black River, died Tuesday evening at Angels Inn Adult Home, where she had resided since August. Following her education, Mrs. Youngs was a telephone operator employed by Black River Telephone Co. in Adams until 1934. She later was employed in that same capacity from 1942 to 1944 at Madison Barracks, Sackets Harbor, and then at Camp Drum from 1946 until her retirement in 1969.Born March 31, 1899, in Worth, daughter of Patrick M. and Anna M. Smith Lyng, she attended Mile Strip County School, town of Worth, and Copenhagen schools. She married Earl D. Kilburn of Montague on Nov. 26, 1919, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Mr. Kilburn was a mailman and farmer and the couple moved to Watertown in 1925. Mr. Kilburn, an Army veteran of World War I, died Nov. 29, 1928.She married Gordon S. Youngs of Adams on Aug. 11, 1934, in St. Andrew's Catholic Church rectory, Sackets Harbor. Mr. Youngs, a bookkeeper and timekeeper during the construction of Pine Camp, died Jan. 20. 1959.Mrs. Youngs lived at Black River from 1950 to 1975, when she moved to Midtown Towers. She was a member of the Holy Family Altar and Rosary Society. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. George (Naomi) Wakeman, Eldbridge, Mrs. Vernon (Audrey) Bengtson, Orlando, Fla., and Mrs. James (Mary Jane) McGuire, Watertown; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.Two daughters, Marlene Forbes and Anne K. Walck; four brothers and three sisters died before her. A prayer service will be at 11:20 a.m. Friday at Bruce Funeral Home, Black River, followed by a noon funeral Mass at Holy Family Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.Donations may be made to Black River Ambulance Squad.
