Thomas Ross II

Deer Creek Presbyterian Church and churchyard on
Baiford Road, Gibsonia, PA,

The present church is across the road from the cemetery, but the original log church,
which was destroyed by fire, was within the cemetery area as were all replacement
churches except the present one. The Pastor volunteered the information that the
cemetery records were not accurate and were incomplete. RBK
Thomas Ross II was born about 1786 while his parents were living in Washington
County, PA. His father, a Revolutionary War veteran, owned land near Pittsburgh in
Allegheny County but could not occupy it due to hostile Indians. They did finally move
there about 1792 and Thomas along with the other children were raised there. After
marrying, Thomas and his wife, Catherine Leaphart, owned land in West Deer
Township which is in the Northwest part of the County. They raised a large family there
until the accidental death of Thomas in April 1839 at the age of 53 years.
