Resigned his job with pipline company to start with Harry Sinclair..Sinclair Oil Company....which is now Atlantic Richfield(ARCO)Have resignation letter to pipeline. One of original stockholders of Exchange National Bank Tulsa, renamed in 1929, National Bank of Tulsa, then in 1975 Bank of Oklahoma, along with Harry Sinclair, E W Stich.

Helped build twin 10 inch pipelines from Tulsa(Glenpool finds) to Wood River Il to help Sinclair compete with Standard Oil(Amoco) to get the plentiful oil from Okla area to major population areas, and refineries for use by public. He ran the Sinclair Pipeline.

Came from Oil City Pa to Independence Ks in 1903. In 1912 moved to Tulsa, when he resigned from Prairie Pipe Line Co and formed Sinclair Pipeline with Harry F Sinclair, and John Manion. First home in Tulsa a 2 story house at 112 E 6th St. Later moved to 6th and Elwood across from now Tulsa County Courthouse, where family owned property until family descendants finally sold land about 1990's.

Harry Sinclair built and maintained a like system and in the depression years Standard quit buying oil from Prairie and acquired the Sinclair Pipeline Company and Sinclair acquired the Prairie Pipeline system. Standard called its system Standolin Pipeline Co. and Sinclair named his Sinclair-Prairie P.L. Co. Both companies' pipeline systems came through Neodesha.
The Prairie Pipeline Company had its headquarters in Neodesha on the west side of the Missouri-Pacific railroad tracks where the building stood until a few years ago. Albian Bailey bought the site for a pipe yard and later sold it to Adley Lorbeer who tore the structure down and built the large storage facility at the west of where the original headquarters stood.
Although Prairie Pipeline wished to remain in Neodesha and build their offices here, circumstances didn't allow and they built at Independence instead. Sinclair Oil merged with the Atlantic-Richfield Company and the pipeline company name is now ARCO.

Herman Ruge is 69 Years Old

Last Friday, February 1st, was the 69th birthday anniversary of Herman Ruge, living northeast of Pierce, and the occasion was celebrated at his home that evening by more than eighty guests, consisting of neighboring families and a large representation of business men and frieds from Pierce.

(There are four paragraphs about the celebration.) The remaining paragraphs are as follows:

Mr. Ruge was born at Altona, Germany, and came to America on the steamer Westphalia when he was 17 years of age. He worked in Omaha as groom and coachman for the late Senator Millard. He came to Pierce in 1895 and worked for such pioneer famers are August Koerting, Wm. Korth and Frank Schultz. He and his two sons, Will and Walter, now farm the 560 acres known as the Hertert place in Allen precinct. Mr. Ruge has been very successful both as a farm and stock raiser.

Mr. and Mrs. Ruge celebrated their forty-second anniversary of their marriage on December 29th last. They were married at Omaha in 1892, Mrs. Ruge's maiden name being Henrietta Warstadt. This union was blessed with three sons and eight daughters: Will, Herman and Walter, Mrs. Dora Meilhenry, Mrs. Mollie Schaede, Mrs. Martha Schock, Mary, of Omaha, and Anna, Lucille, Gertrude and Miss Charlotte at home.

Emil Hertert (1854-1923), and his brother, Lucien Hertert (1858-1934), were in partnership in the land and abstract business in Iowa and Nebraska. Emil settled in Harlan, Shelby Co., IA. Lucien settled in Pierce Co., NE, although he removed to California about 1920 and lived in Santa Ana, Orange Co. Lucien died in California, but is
buried near his first wife, Mary (1868-1899), in Prospect View cem. in Pierce Ne.
