Ralph Gustav Bendel Sr.
Ralph Gustav Bendel Sr. was considered by so many of his friends and acquaintances to be a “natural gentleman”, a kind and generous man of “old world sensibilities.” He was born on August 25, 1921 to Gustav and Johannah Bendel of Winnetka, Illinois where he was raised. He graduated from New Trier High School and attended college at Iowa State before coming to the University of Tulsa where in math class he met his future bride Josephine E. Dick. World War II interrupted his college years and he served four years in the Army Air Corps in Italy and Algiers. After the war he returned to Tulsa and wed Josephine. The marriage bore three sons: Ralph Gustav Jr., Edwin Dick, and Christopher Barry. Ralph had been trained by his father, an immigrant from Austria, in gardening, carpentry, metal works, plumbing and electrical. He could do anything with his hands. After a time working in finance he returned to what he loved and established “La Maison Inc.”, a manufacturer of custom chandeliers, lighting fixtures, and brass hardware. He retired in 1987 and he and Josephine spent their time between their Tulsa home and a summer family home in Taos N.M. They enjoyed watching the family grow with grandchildren, Medea, Johannah, Celeste, Matt, David, and Elizabeth. They also enjoyed traveling whether it be to Europe, an Alaskan Cruise or in their travel trailer to the mountains of the west as they did every year with the children as they grew up. Josephine died in 1999 leaving a permanent hole in Ralph’s heart; but he kept the vigor and belief in life and cherished the arrival of great-grandchildren Alec Michael Howard and Brayden Gustav Howard and maintained an active part of his family. On May 28, 2011 Ralph picked a bouquet of lilac blooms from his Taos garden for his Josephine and then went back to the garden to water his trees where he so suddenly left us, and joined his beloved Josephine. There will be a memorial service at 6:30 pm on Thursday, July 7th at Cascia Hall’s St. Rita Chapel. Memorial donations can be given to “The Rev. Henry V. Spielmann Scholarship Fund” at Cascia Hall or the St. John Lafortune Cancer Center. This obituary was published in the Tulsa World on 7/3/2011

Ruth had a step brother-Carl McBride
Ruth died in France while traveling with her son, Robert-a unexpected death, from previous injury from auto accident a few years before. This was their trip together after he graduated from Notre Dame-a dream they always wanted to do together and it was cut short. Both mother and son were very close.
This death was a hard blow to Robert. Robert had to bring her body back to U. S. . Getting it back there was very difficult, but done.
A book was published about their travels to Europe together. It istitled "Our Big Adventure." It was only published for the family--not in bookstores.Ruth moved to Sapulpa, Oklahoma before meeting and marrying Ray Siegfried. They then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Ruth was reserved and refined. She sewed quite a bit and played the piano by ear. She played very beautifully. Ruth didn't sew for her niece, Maxine, but when Maxine went to college, Ruth would loan her a nice dress for a special occasion. Maxine was Ruth's brother's, Hugh's,daughter. Ruth was Maxine's Matron of Honor when she married Virgil Stratton.
Earlier, Ruth's health had deteriorated after an automobile accident when she, Ray and Lucy McBride were visiting Maxine and Virgil in Lubbuck forThanksgiving, and for Ray's business. The accident occurred on their way home, with Ruth sitting in the middle of Ray and Lucy. Ruth was hospitalized for a long time, with a crushed pelvis being the most serious of her injuries. Ruth ended up walking with a limp.
Ruth was very religious, a Catholic and going to Mass everyday. Her father, Charles came to her funeral in Tulsa from California.
Charles origanally came from Kentucky. After Sadie died, Charles married Matilda, who people called her "Tillie". They had no children of their own. Tillie had a least 1 son from a previous marriage. They lived inthe Neosho and Monett, Missouri areas.
Charles and son, Hugh moved to Sapulpa to work on the Frisco railroad expansion at 1 time.
All of Charles children were easygoing like him.
Charles and Tillie moved to Southern California, where they owned andoperated a neighborhood food market at 2644 Atlantic, on a hill in the Boyle Heights District.
Charles was known to his family as"Papa Mac.'
Papa Mac was witty and fun.In 1880 US census lived with his grandmother Mary Ann Forsyth and her 2nd husband James Marshall in Sugar Creek Mo. called Charley.
Sadie died of Tuberculosis.
