George Gaun Gillespie

In 1881 Canadian census a George Gillespie shows up b 1802 in Belfast Ireland but of Scottish ancestry with wife Sarah.in Mersea Ontario Canada. With them are an Ann Gillespie b 1852, and George Gillespie b 1845, both b in Ontario Canada.

George G (possibly for Gonne) Gillespie who was born in Belfast of Scottish parents on the 4th of Jan, 1803, and died 6 Mar, 1883, at Leamington, Mersea Township, Essex County, Ontario, Canada.
An obituary for his wife Sarah Helferich says that George went to Glasgow University. I have checked with the University and a George Gillespie did attend there from 1821 to 1825.
In May of 2003 an enquiry was send to the University, and they replied that a George Gillespie had enrolled in1821, studied Latin in 1821-1822, Greek in 1822-1823, Logic in 1823-1824, and Ethics in 1824-1825, but there was no record of his graduation.

This fits in well with our birth date of 1803, and with George's marriage to Sarah at Quebec in 1830. The University records also show that George was a merchant in Glasgow and was the fifth son of John Gillespie who was minister of Arroquar, Scotland. I have found this John on Google but there is no mention of family, so I can not prove that.
