Benjamin Stead

Joseph Stead was a brother to Benjamin who was the first to
immigrate to America, as far as we know, and was married to Frances
Morley. Your Joseph took over the property in Utica that Benjamin had
purchased after living in Detroit. Benjamin died in 1821, leaving 8
children ranging in age from 4 years old - 19 years old. Frances had died
in 1818. The older ones went out on their own, some were taken in by
relatives, while others were cared for by loving friends. The girls
tended to stay in Detroit. Two of Benjamin's sons moved to Providence, Rhode
Island
Benjamin's son, Benjamin Felix (gg grandfather) married into the Jenks
line
that goes back to 6 individuals who came over on The Mayflower! Benjamin,
Senior's son Thomas (the one born in London) married into the Dyer family
and that line goes back to Mary Barrett, who was hung in Boston for her
Quaker ways! There is a statue of her now in Boston
and the town has apologized for her hanging.
Benjamin came to America in 1804, leaving
his family in London. I think she stayed with brother Robert. Then she
came over in 1806, arriving at Eastport, Maine.
