The James Hastings family, has James born in Belfast N Ireland by his death certificate. His wife born in England. We know that by 1855 he was living in Ohio, since his son Robert was born there then. Study of the few Hastings in Belfast Ireland at the time James would have been born seems to point to Thomas Hastings as being his probable parent. It also shows he had siblings, probably more than the 3 found...due to gap in birth dates of siblings. This is further emphasized by fact of where Robert Hastings was born, in Ohio and the location of the rest of the supposed other 3 siblings and their location in Ohio also. Thomas Hastings the supposed father, shows born in Belfast N Ireland in 1793. To date no other Hastings have been located in this area, so therefore we assume they crossed over from England sometime before this. Under this assumption, and the name Hastings....appear to be English in origin prior to this. To fit with this note that Hastings were born in N Ireland..Belfast...the English area. Note wife born in England also.
The six northern counties making up N Ireland were "owned by the English" This is versus the remaining southern counties making up the rest of Ireland. As we all know the years of fighting in Ireland, North vs the South, English vs Irish(southern) , Protestant vs Catholic still continues to this day.

ILLINOIS Tazewell county, which is why we are not sure where her
parents are buried? ELIZABETH is buried in Tazwell county and her husband is
also.The Pres. Rutherford B Hayes Library, shows a JAMES HASTINGS enlisted at age 49, on 11/21/1861 at Clyde Ohio, in company A, 72nd regiment of Ohio Infantry, as a Private. He served till 11/26/1864 when he deserted m notes Cairo Il. It also shows a John Hastings(his nephew? or likely his brother) enlisting at age 17, on 2/5/1861 at Clyde Oh, and deserting 3/19/1862 at Pittsburg Landing Tn
