Note: 1 1 1 Said to have accompanied Daniel Boone to Kentucky in appx 1785, one of Boone's later trips piloting Rev. soldiers to their land grants. Thmas J.'s grant was reputed to have come from Va. Gov. Patrick Henry for revolutionary service. Said to have imported 1st purebred shorthorn cattle from England (first calling them by that name) and in partnership with Matthew Patton (& possibly Miller) founded the Ky. shorthorncattle industry. Also claims to have brought grass sods in saddle bags to Winchester, Ky., from the base of the Allegheny Mt.s. That grass was 1st known in Ky. as as "Goff's Grass" but later, it is claimed, was called "Blue Grass." To those who say Blue Grass is native to Kentucky, Goff believers say, "No," that it was first seen in Winchester--and that after Goff had brought it home after Kentucky's first cattle drive to NY, a trip of 3 months.
